The purpose of this article is to outline the steps to be taken when installing the ring scanner option on the Champ.  This article will also provide instructions telling how to set up the ring scanner after installation is complete.  If you have questions while performing the installation, please contact EII Customer Support at (765) 250-4100.

Installing the Bluetooth Adapter

  • Insert the Bluetooth adapter that was shipped with the ring scanner into the left-most USB 2.0 port in the front of the computer.
    • After inserting the Bluetooth adapter, it is possible that device drivers will need to be installed.

Installing Bluetooth Device Drivers

Device drivers must be present, otherwise the Bluetooth adapter will not function properly.

  • Remove the disc from its case and place it in the CD/DVD drive.
  • Once the Autoplay window appears, select Run Autorun.exe to begin the installation process.
  • A prompt will appear stating "Install BTW Software", at which time Yes must be selected.
    • A progress bar will be displayed that shows the status of the installation.
  • When prompted to choose where the Bluetooth drivers will be installed, leave the destination folder set to the default location and select Agree and Install Bluetooth Software.
    • After selecting Agree and Install Bluetooth Software, an installation progress bar will again display.
  • Once the installation is complete, a dialog box will appear, at which time Finish will need to be selected.
  • A message will appear stating that the device is ready to be used.

Assembling the Ring Scanner

Once the computer has been updated to support Bluetooth communication, the ring scanner will need to be assembled.

  • Remove the ring scanner and battery from their box.
  • Mount the battery in the designated location on the top of the ring scanner.
  • If the battery has not been charged, it will need to charge for approximately 4 hours before it can be used.
  • To determine whether the batter is fully charged, refer to section Charging the Battery below.

Pairing the Ring Scanner to the Computer

Before the ring scanner will communicate with the Champ, it needs to be "paired" with the computer.

  • Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the right side of the taskbar and select Add a Device from the menu that appears.
    • The system will scan to detect all Bluetooth devices that are in range of the computer.
  • Once the ring scanner appears in the list of detected devices, select it and click the Pair or Connect button that appears next to the device name.
  • When pairing is complete, the window will reflect this information by displaying either "Paired" or "Connected" under the device name.
  • A window will appear that reads "Configuring Bluetooth Services..."
    • If it does not appear at this time, it should appear when the Champ is opened, provided the device is properly connected.
  • Once the device is fully paired with the computer, click the Close button.
    • The device may simply read "Camera" or it may only display the serial number of the ring scanner.

Setup for Standard Use

  • To charge the battery, remove it from the ring scanner
    • Press the button on top of the battery to release it from the ring scanner.
  • Once removed, place the battery into the battery charging station.

      • Once the battery is fully charged, the light will stop flashing and will become constant.
      • Once the battery is removed, the light will no longer be illuminated.

Configuring the Ring Scanner for the Dominant Hand

The ring scanner can be made to work with either the left or right hand.

  • Loosen the velcro on the strap.
  • Pull the strap out of the strap holder.
  • Remove the rubber pad on the underside of the ring scanner.
  • Rotate the base of the ring scanner until the ring scanner button is on the opposite side of the scanner (180 degrees from its starting position).
  • Replace the rubber pad and pull the strap back through the strap holder.
