The purpose of this article is to outline the steps to be taken when installing the ring scanner option on the Champ. This article will also provide instructions telling how to set up the ring scanner after installation is complete. Installing the Bluetooth Adapter
- Insert the Bluetooth adapter that was shipped with the ring scanner into the left-most USB 2.0 port in the front of the computer.
- After inserting the Bluetooth adapter, it is possible that device drivers will need to be installed.
Installing Bluetooth Device Drivers
Device drivers must be present, otherwise the Bluetooth adapter will not function properly.
- Remove the disc from its case and place it in the CD/DVD drive.
- Once the Autoplay window appears, select Run Autorun.exe to begin the installation process.
- A prompt will appear stating "Install BTW Software", at which time Yes must be selected.
- A progress bar will be displayed that shows the status of the installation.
- When prompted to choose where the Bluetooth drivers will be installed, leave the destination folder set to the default location and select Agree and Install Bluetooth Software.
- After selecting Agree and Install Bluetooth Software, an installation progress bar will again display.
- Once the installation is complete, a dialog box will appear, at which time Finish will need to be selected.
- A message will appear stating that the device is ready to be used.
Assembling the Ring Scanner
Once the computer has been updated to support Bluetooth communication, the ring scanner will need to be assembled.
- Remove the ring scanner and battery from their box.
- Mount the battery in the designated location on the top of the ring scanner.
- If the battery has not been charged, it will need to charge for approximately 4 hours before it can be used.
- To determine whether the batter is fully charged, refer to section Charging the Battery below.
Pairing the Ring Scanner to the Computer
Before the ring scanner will communicate with the Champ, it needs to be "paired" with the computer.
- Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the right side of the taskbar and select Add a Device from the menu that appears.
- The system will scan to detect all Bluetooth devices that are in range of the computer.
- Once the ring scanner appears in the list of detected devices, select it and click the Pair or Connect button that appears next to the device name.
- When pairing is complete, the window will reflect this information by displaying either "Paired" or "Connected" under the device name.
- A window will appear that reads "Configuring Bluetooth Services..."
- If it does not appear at this time, it should appear when the Champ is opened, provided the device is properly connected.
- Once the device is fully paired with the computer, click the Close button.
- The device may simply read "Camera" or it may only display the serial number of the ring scanner.
Setup for Standard Use
- Right-click the Bluetooth icon and select Show Bluetooth Devices.
- Right-click the camera icon and select Remove Device.
- A confirmation window will appear asking "Are you sure you want to remove this device?"
- Select Yes.
- A confirmation window will appear asking "Are you sure you want to remove this device?"
- Press the Scan trigger (yellow button on the side of the ring scanner) and verify that the scan LEDs to the rear of the scanner illuminate and that the cross hair light is visible while the Scan trigger is pressed.
- Perform a "Clean Boot" on the ring scanner by doing the following:
- Remove the battery from the ring scanner.
- Press and hold the Reset button (oblong grey button on the right side of the ring scanner).
- Reinsert the battery while still holding Reset and continue to hold the button.
- Scan the following barcode to set the ring scanner to SPP mode:
- Perform a "Cold Boot" by removing the battery from the ring scanner for five seconds, reinstalling the battery, and allowing the ring scanner to boot.
- Scan the barcodes below in the following order:
- Enable Code 93
- AIM Code ID Character
- <PREFIX><DATA><SUFFIX1>
- Scan Prefix
- 1
- 3
- 1
- 0
- Scan Suffix 1
- 1
- 3
- 1
- 0
- Follow the steps outlined in section Pairing the Ring Scanner to the Computer.
The setup is now complete and the ring scanner is ready for standard use.
Charging the Battery
The battery of the ring scanner must be recharged after each use (usually at the end of each shift). It will take approximately 4 hours to fully charge a standard battery.
- To charge the battery, remove it from the ring scanner
- Press the button on top of the battery to release it from the ring scanner.
- Once removed, place the battery into the battery charging station.
- The light associated with the charging bay on the recharging station will start to flash as it is recharging the battery.
- Once the battery is fully charged, the light will stop flashing and will become constant.
- Once the battery is removed, the light will no longer be illuminated.
- The light associated with the charging bay on the recharging station will start to flash as it is recharging the battery.
Configuring the Ring Scanner for the Dominant Hand
The ring scanner can be made to work with either the left or right hand.
- Loosen the velcro on the strap.
- Pull the strap out of the strap holder.
- Remove the rubber pad on the underside of the ring scanner.
- Rotate the base of the ring scanner until the ring scanner button is on the opposite side of the scanner (180 degrees from its starting position).
- Replace the rubber pad and pull the strap back through the strap holder.
