Installing the Headless Display Adapter

Modified on Wed, Feb 13, 2019 at 8:40 AM

Introduction

EII has begun using a new model of server computer, the Lenovo M715. For safety, that model will not produce an image of a resolution higher than 640x480 without a monitor connected. This makes viewing the server remotely for troubleshooting purposes very difficult.  Luckily, the fix is a one step process. Plugging in a Headless Display Adapter allows the resolution to be adjusted to the desired value.

The Part

A headless display adapter is a VGA connector that will go into the VGA port on the back of the server PC.

The resolution will now be adjustable when accessed through a remote connection.
