Introduction

The EZ-Workdesk SPA utilizes a Congnex 3D-A1000 Dimensioner to scan parcels and determine their lengths, depth, and width. This article covers the calibration necessary for the dimensioner whenever machine is moved or knocked out of alignment.


Required Tools

  • A connected EZ-Workdesk SPA PC
  • 5mm Allen Wrench
  • Multiple packages within the specifications of the machine


Set-up

1. Verify that the Dimensioner is mounted 60 inches above the EZ-Workdesk SPA.
2. Using the PC on the machine, open a web browser (such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer).
3. Navigate to 172.20.3.9.
Note: If the Cognex window (shown in the image to the right) does not appear, the IP address of the dimensioner may not have been properly changed.

4. Click on the gear icon.


5. Click on the "Run Setup Wizard" button.
6. Click "Go offline".
4. Select English from the "Select a language" drop-down menu.
5. Select "Inches" from the "Choose measurement units" options.
6. Click "Next".



Procedure

1. Set the "Conveyor Information" values to the following:  
  • "Belt Width" to 25 inches
  • "Min Gap" to 1.969 inches
  • "Max Line Speed" to 20 ft/min
  • Select Software/PLC from the "Trigger Type dropdown menu.
2. Set the "Object Information" values to the following:  
  • "Min Length" to 6.38 inches
  • "Min Width" to 3.98 inches
  • "Min Height" to 3.03 inches
  • "Max Length" to 25 inches
  • "Max Width" to 25 inches
  • "Max Height" to 25 inches
3. Click "Next >".
4. Observe the digital bubble level on the right side of the screen.
If the Dimensioner is correctly orientated, this will be green, and the operator can proceed to step 10.
If the Dimensioner is not correctly orientated, this will be red.
5. To adjust the the dimensioner forwards and backwards, loosen the bolt with the 5mm Allen wrench.
6. Once the bubble level icon is centered along the vertical line, re-tighten the bolt.
7. To tilt the the dimensioner sideways, loosen the mounting bracket with the 5mm Allen wrench.
8. Gently grasp the dimensioner and rotate it until the bubble level icon is centered along the horizontal line and the whole icon turns green.

9. Re-tighten the mounting bracket.
10. Click "Teach Conveyor Position".
11. Click "Next >".
12. The screen will show an image corresponding to the desktop. Place a package in the area indicated by the red box.
Once the box on screen turns green, the package is in the right spot.
13. Click "Measurement Area".
14. Click "No".
15. Set the "Measurement Region" values to the following:  
  • "Width " to 25 inches
  • "Length Offset" to -1 inches
  • "Width Offset" to 0 inches
  • "Rotation" to 90 degrees
16. Verify that the green lines in the display lines up with the desktop surface.
17. Click "Next >".
18. Click "AutoTune Package #X".
Note: The package number will change depending on how many times this process has been run in the past. 
19. Wait for the AutoTune process to finish.
20. Click "Next >".
21. Under "Fields to Report", check the Length, Width, and Height boxes.
22. Under "Formatting Options", check the ".JSON formatted data" box.
23. Click "Next".
24. Click "Finish".
25. Wait for the dimensioner to reboot.

The dimensioner is now calibrated.
